Framin’ It Out

When Brent and I bought our home about eight years ago, it was definitely a fixer upper. We got it as a short sale that had been rented out along the way, apparently by people who didn’t care about ownership upkeep or paint colors (you’ll see what I mean in the future). We came the night before closing and threw in bug bombs if that gives you any idea.

Since we only pay for things with cash, fixing up the house has been a slow process. We’ve done a lot (put on a new roof, had the outside painted, bought new appliances) that have improved our home, but those are big ticket items. So, when it comes to making things visually appealing, we’ve had to be creative and work slowly. Thankfully, Brent is SUPER handy.

The “before” state of our window. It’s so hard getting a good picture when you’re taking one directly into the light.

One of my favorite inexpensive upgrades was framing out the windows in the master bedroom. I got the idea from Lauren over at Blesser House. We had to make some modifications to the instructions because we have blackout shades on our windows.

Brent thrives on accuracy. Making sure everything was level probably took more time than anything!
We even recruited Brent’s sister while she was visiting us one weekend.

The total project cost less than $50, but the dimension it added to our bedroom was worth way more than that!

During the midst of the project, we also painted our bedroom a dreamy navy, which really makes the white framing pop! The updates in this room aren’t over yet, but we’ve made some decent headway into our master room improvements!

The glorious “after.”
