The Year of More
Oh, hey!
If you want some New Year’s advice from someone who has all their shtuff together, go subscribe to someone else. Remember when I was going to write in my blog once a week? I’ve finally discovered that even though I am a writer, I’m not a blogger. In fact, you’re lucky you’re getting this post. But, I felt inspired, so here’s a little ditty served up just for you.
This past year was one of the best and one of the most difficult seasons of my life. The blessings were abundant, but the personal challenges almost defeated me (ask my husband who had to deal with a wilted wife crying on the closet floor several times during the last month over a house that wanted to swallow me whole. Yes. My house is the three-eyed, claw-clad monster in the storybook of my life).
Anyway, I started thinking about my goals for 2019. I want it to be my best year yet, which means I want to experience growth. I decided to pull my whole family in so we can keep each other accountable. I challenged everyone yesterday morning to think about what their goals are for the next year, and to be ready to share them last night before we went to bed (at 9 because we are wimps).
So, last night, Brent, Elizabeth, and I sat on her bed and listed out our personal goals. Some of them were as follows:
- More focus on nutrition and health
- More kindness
- More productivity
- More grace
- More listening
- More compassion
- More patience
- More serving
- More prayer
I explained to everyone that we are to keep each other accountable with those things on which we wanted to work. Whenever my daughter sees me slipping a Pop Tart into my mouth, she’s allowed to look at me and say, “Goals?”
Or when Elizabeth is wanting something done right then and there because she is the queen of Mywayorthehighwayland, I get to simply say to her, “Goals?”
Anyway, you get the point.
I’m looking forward to a goal-filled year where my family keeps each other accountable by a simple, non-confrontational reminder of what we set out to do.
Make it a year of more.
